This tutorial will show main eazyBI chart types and how to select data for these charts and change chart options. You can try to create charts using demo Sales cube.

Bar and line charts

Before creating a chart it is always better to use Table tab to select necessary data and then maximise results area.

After necessary data are selected then switch to Bar tab and experiment with different bar chart options to find the best visualizations of your data.

Customize measure display options

You can also customize how individual measure is displayed in a chart and create mixed type charts (e.g. color, line type, data label).

Pie chart

On the similar way, data can be also visualized in pie charts.


Timeline chart

If you want to display changes or measures over time dimension then you can use timeline chart which provides an easy way to navigate to different time periods.

At first select time dimension corresponding hierarchy level (days, weeks or months) on rows and necessary measures on columns.

And then switch to Timeline tab and select the necessary time period and change display options for measures (as lines, bars, areas or points). Read also more about date filters.

Map chart

If you have some dimension with countries or regions level and you would like to visualize some measure on a map then you can use map chart.

At first select corresponding dimension (e.g. Customers dimension in Sales demo cube) and select country or region level on rows and necessary measures on columns (the first column will be used to calculate the color of the region on a map).

And then switch to Map tab and select the corresponding map (world map, Europe map or particular country map). If you need additional country maps then please contact eazyBI support.

The countries are mapped with the ISO two letter codes. As well the country names you can see when hovering over the country in the map will be recognized. Additional aliases are added to recognize USA, US and United States.

Gantt chart

Gantt chart by default can be used with Basecamp imported data. You can try Gantt chart using demo Basecamp data. For other imported data (e.g. JIRA) you will need to define calculated members for start and end dates as well as for completion percentage.

At first, you need to select projects and tasks on rows and in columns, you need to select at least two date columns for task start date and end date (corresponding measures should use date formatting).

Optionally you can select completion percentage in columns (this column measure should percentage formatting). Completion percentage should be in the range from 0% (a task not started) to 100% (task completed). If completion percentage is less than 100% and end date is in the past (before current date) then the task will be shown as overdue.

And then switch to Gantt tab and review projects and tasks as color-coded elements.

Gauge chart

Gauge chart can be used to show several key performance indicators and define the limits for these indicator values and corresponding color coding of the gauge:

If several gauges are displayed using the same measure and if you want to specify the same limits for all gauges then click on the common measure (or on the common member name) and select Gauge limits. If you need to add specific limit values for just one gauge then click on the gauge value and select Gauge limits.

When entering gauge limits you can use k suffix to enter thousands, M suffix to enter millions or % suffix to enter a percentage value.

Click Scaled values option in a toolbar to display large gauge values using k or M suffixes.


Scatter chart

A scatter chart can be used to display the relationship between elements based on two measures or add another measure by selecting Bubble to create a bubble chart:

You could add Name labels for each element to add additional information in a chart and click on any bubble to drill into details.

X and Y axis are adjusted automatically according to values of selected measures.

Boxplot chart

The boxplot chart type can be used for displaying the distribution of data based on five measures:

  • minimum (for calculations use function Min)
  • first quartile (for calculations use function FirstQ)
  • median (for calculations use function Median)
  • third quartile (for calculations use function ThirdQ)
  • maximum (for calculations use function Max)

The central rectangle spans the first quartile to the third quartile; a segment inside the rectangle shows the median and "whiskers" above and below the box show the locations of the minimum and maximum.
This chart type is available when all five measures are selected for a report.
Go to Bar chart view and for the first measure select type boxplot (see gif below).


Additional chart options

NEW Starting from the eazyBI version 4.2 you can customize axes options by setting the title or min, max values and a step for Y-axis or a title and label orientation for X-axis.

Choose "Swap axis" option to swap row and column dimension placement on X and Y axis.

Additionally, you could change the font size for most of the chart types.
