Interval dimensions

Interval dimensions contain members that are intervals of some numeric attribute. For example, the Jira Issues cube has Age Interval dimension which contains time intervals of unresolved issue age (time between the creation time and current time), and a Resolution Interval which contains time intervals of resolved issue resolution time. Go to eazyBI import options, the Additional options tab, and select the option to import interval dimensions to enable Age Interval and Resolution Interval dimensions.

A user with at least the Data admin role in the account can customize the dimension in the All hierarchy level members section by editing existing intervals [1] or adding a new custom hierarchy [2] to the existing interval dimension.

Changes to the interval definition and interval name customization affect all reports in the eazyBI account that use the changed interval.

Edit intervals

eazyBI creates default intervals with a step of 10 days (interval configuration/10) or based on the provided interval configuration when defining an interval dimension or hierarchy, but a user with at least the Data admin role can edit the intervals at any time.

In the Edit Intervals dialog, you can enter a comma-separated list of intervals using numbers [3].

  • Any interval or step value can be a whole value or a decimal value with a point (.) as a decimal separator (e.g. 0-2.5/0.5).
  • The starting value of the interval is included, but the end value is not included.
  • Each interval can be either a single interval endpoint value (e.g 30), from-to range (e.g. 10-100), step (e.g. /10), or you can combine (e.g. 0,7,14,30-100/10).
  • Negative intervals are supported.

When the interval dimension represents a time duration (or age), the interval is set to days [4]. You can adjust a time unit for the interval values, choosing from dayshoursminutes, or seconds.

Custom interval names

Custom interval names and custom interval hierarchies are available on Cloud and since eazyBI version 9.0.

The interval names are for representation only and do not affect the interval range. The default representation uses numeric ranges with leading zeros, which can be hard to perceive as intervals in some cases. For example, ... - 013, 014 - 099, 100 - ....

You can modify the interval representation by defining a naming pattern for interval members. Select the option custom interval names and eazyBI automatically applies a more descriptive pattern that uses < and symbols to make inclusion explicit [5]. For example, < 14, ≥ 14 and < 100, and  ≥ 100).

You can customize the pattern to add labels specific to your use case for the values before the first interval [6], after the last interval [8], and for each interval [7]. Click on edit to unlock the field for changes. You can add text to the name, but the placeholders that mark each interval starting value  {{from}} and endpoint value {{to}} should remain.

Custom Hierarchies

Custom interval names and custom interval hierarchies are available on Cloud and since eazyBI version 9.0.

A user with at least the Data admin role can add custom hierarchies, allowing different interval configurations for the same dimension. For example, if the base interval is used for the default interval to show the Lead time distribution. Other hierarchies could be created for Support SLA or Development SLA, each with different intervals.

In the dialog, enter a custom hierarchy name, define the interval endpoints, and optionally enable Custom interval names and set the Interval unit. Each custom hierarchy has its own independent interval definition and naming.

Use intervals from the same hierarchy in the report; do not mix multiple hierarchies in one report.
